Hello,
I will create a new branch for 0.5 stable releases. The 0.6 feature development will continue in trunk.
The plan is to merge all bug fixes from the trunk to 0.5 branch and then release regular well-tested snapshots from the branch as 0.5.1, 0.5.2 and so on. Any comments or opinions?

Looking forward to this i will be a very active beta tester for this project
futubanister 4:52 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
Good to hear that Siraj,
Steps to begin:
1. Install Qt libraries from ftp://ftp.qt.nokia.com/pub/qt/symbian/4.6.1/qt_installer.sis
2. Install WordPress for Nokia client from http://nokia.trac.wordpress.org/export/3/builds/symbian/WordPress_0.5.0_selfsigned.sisx
3. Submit tickets to http://nokia.trac.wordpress.org/

Trying them now
Does you have any check list what i should check on the release ?
pten 5:36 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
As this is the first release we need to make sure it work on a large set of devices and blogs. So no special focus area now. Just let us know if you find something!

Working fine on Nokia 5800Xm i have gathered many active testers too. We will make this project a good success. Still now its annoying that every second App asks me a connection to choose. and it loads some time and posting failes still workin it out .
apacheking 6:06 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
Update 2: The adding category works fine still no option to publish posts . The add category works it gives a connection error after many attempts but when i checked on PC new Category have been created. To The Programmer bro’s make the app to remember the last connected accesspoint so it makes the app dont intimate users for every now and then for connection.
pten 6:17 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
We used to have that problem a while ago, but was fixed (or so it seemed
). Could there be a setting (on os level) which affect this?
apacheking 6:24 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
bro no i think. I even checked whether default browser setting conflicting with this and no it wasnt.
pten 6:37 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
ok, could you make a trac ticket out of thi? Soon there will be no horizontal space for replying
apacheking 6:42 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
lol ok its done
pten 1:38 pm on February 12, 2010 Permalink |
We’re looking into the problem. But a workaround seems to be to set the default access point in your phone settings. You can set it to internet in settings> connectivity> destinations> options> default connection and make sure in settings> connectivity> destinations> internet valid access points are defined. Let me know if the problem persists with this modification

Im really interested in trying this out, and reporting any found bugs to you guys etc, however, I need to know a couple of things before I go ahead and install.
I have an N97 running V21 firmware, and those who already own an N97 will know, lack of RAM, and memory in this device is quite restricting on what we can install to phone memory.
Would I be given the chance to choose where to install the qt Installer, and if so, if I were to choose Mass memory, would the qt libraries also be installed to mass memory, or phone memory? This is very important to know to all N97 owners out there.
Thanks in advance
Janne Kalliomäki 6:35 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
Hi, Qt installer does have an option to install to different drives. However, you might run into performance issues if you do not install it to phone memory.
Still, I suggest to go ahead and try and report here if you have any issues!
Micky 6:36 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
Ok, will give it ago, and report memory consumption, and performance. Thanks for your prompt reply
Micky 5:48 am on February 12, 2010 Permalink |
As promised, I said I would let you know my findings with the installation on N97 running V21.
Seeing as previous testers reported that installing to mass memory worked, I can confirm, that even though you choose to install the qt installer to mass memory, it does in fact install to phone memory, taking up a whooping 12MB of resources.
Its working very well so far on my N97, but with less that 10MB of phone memory left after installation, things are about to get a little bumpy.
Janne Kalliomäki 9:40 am on February 12, 2010 Permalink |
Thanks for the info. We will have to see if there is anything that we can do about the large memory requirements. Perhaps we do not need all parts of Qt? Let’s see.
mbrett 8:34 pm on February 12, 2010 Permalink |
I agree with Micky’s comments having an N97 too.
apacheking 6:36 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
Hi bro i tried to install QT in Mass Memory in Nokia 5800 it installs fine without any problems
Then i installed the WordPress app into the Mass Memory too. It works very well bro
Micky 6:37 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
Ok, thanks, will experiment.
mbrett 8:33 pm on February 12, 2010 Permalink |
I agree with you. On N97 at least QT only installs to the C: drive even if option given. WHen you check location post install it’s C: Drive.
Janne Kalliomäki 7:07 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
Hi Siraj, did you have any problems with non-wordpress.com blogs? The application should work with other blogs as well, provided that you have a somewhat recent WordPress installation and administrator or editor rights in the blog. If you encounter any problems, please open tickets at http://nokia.trac.wordpress.org.
Rohit 7:26 pm on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
I tried it out on a hosted WP blog on an N97 and it worked perfectly, except for problems uploading images.
Janne Kalliomäki 9:05 pm on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
Thanks for the report! Image uploading demands a lot of memory, of which there is a huge shortage in N97. I’ll try to see if we can reduce the memory consumption there, but I fear that there is not much left to improve.
Rohit 4:00 am on February 20, 2010 Permalink |
Tried again with the latest version. And am not still able to insert images. I wish Nokia were more sensible and had launched the N97 with better specs.

Jamie McElwain 5:47 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
Not sure how to install Qt libraries. Can anyone help me?
futubanister 5:51 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
Hi Jamie,
Here you can find the Qt installer:
ftp://ftp.qt.nokia.com/pub/qt/symbian/4.6.1/qt_installer.sis
Download and install that sis file to your device via OVI Suite or any other way. That sis-file will install the required libraries.
Jamie McElwain 5:53 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
Ok, when I try and install WordPress for Nokia, it says that the libraries could not be found.
futubanister 5:57 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
Could you submit a ticket to our Trac: http://nokia.trac.wordpress.org/ ?
Please include the device model and other possibly needed information so we can check what might be the reason.
apacheking 6:08 pm on February 11, 2010 Permalink |
transfer it to the mobiles and install in your device the Qt installer installs all QT libs and Qt runtime

Will this work on S60v3 phones, namely N82?
Janne Kalliomäki 5:34 am on February 12, 2010 Permalink |
Qt is supported from S60 3.1 onwards, which means that N82 is supported.

Ok, continuing with my tests, I just typed up a test post, and hit save, I wasn’t sure if this would just save what I typed to draft, or to publish it, it attempted to publish, but sadly timed out, but didn’t cache my post, or put it in drafts, so lost what I typed.
Will try again.

Testing on the N97 Mini, E72, and 5800XM, will report back shortly. Anything specific to check out?
Ricky Cadden 1:17 pm on February 12, 2010 Permalink |
On the N97 Mini, installed both to the phone memory, rebooted the phone, but I’m unable to login. I enter in the correct credentials, click ‘Save’, and get the ‘Fetching main page’ dialog box, but then nothing happens. Just leaves me back at the login screen.
Tried on 2 different blogs, same result.
Janne Kalliomäki 1:19 pm on February 12, 2010 Permalink |
Thanks for the info. I will be releasing 0.5.1 version today, which should fix some connection problems. If nothing comes up in the last-minute testing, that should be up in a couple of hours!
Micky 7:14 am on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
Thanks for your reply over on NokiaDNA.com Janne, its really appreciated my friend. Any news on the 0.5.1 version you mention?
Micky 8:45 am on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
While I remember, I was thinking, would it be possible in the final release to have an Update option within the app? Or better still, when app launched, it would notify the user if there is a newer version available?
Janne Kalliomäki 8:56 am on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
Hi, 0.5.1 is released, you can download it from here. The only change for Symbian is that it works much better if your blog is in a subdirectory, i.e. domain.com/blog.
The update checker will be developed in the near future. The server side functionality exists already, so all we need is to implement the check in the client, which should not be too hard. Hopefully that will be available in 0.6 or 0.7!
Micky 9:06 am on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
Great work Janne, will give this version a test drive. N97 V21, self hosted WP blog.
Micky 10:14 am on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
Not sure if this is related to the latest build, but thought I would mention it nevertheless, I had wordpress open on my N97 for several minutes, unattended, full battery, and when I went to pick up my N97, it was switched off. Switching it back on, the battery is still full. As said, not sure if this is related or not, but thought I would let you know.
Janne Kalliomäki 8:58 pm on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
Thanks for the report. If this happens again, please open a Trac ticket about it. We had some instability in early development, but I haven’t seen such crashes in a long time.
vinitneo 11:57 am on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
My problem is also with QT It takes up 12mb of C in N97 any way to reduce that to 3-4 mb or install QT to maps memory only. Is it not possible to make this app not require QT at all?
Janne Kalliomäki 4:22 pm on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
We can investigate a bit what we can do about the memory consumption. Qt dependency cannot be broken, but perhaps we do not need the full set of libraries. Let’s see.
futubanister 4:54 pm on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
Wouldn’t there still be _some_ application that requires the libraries that we possibly unnecessarily include? So when Qt comes more popular it doesn’t really matter how much of Qt we’re using, right? (Users will have all the libraries installed anyway)
Janne Kalliomäki 5:23 pm on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
Yes, you are right. But as we have had several commenters noting that they do not have enough memory, I think that the memory consumption issue is severe and at least some time should be spent investigating it.
vinitneo 5:29 pm on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
you are right but what are we supposed to do about the memory? Less than 10 mb in C drive starts creating problem. A good solution would be installing QT to Mass Memory, but it won’t install only in C…. any way to change that?
vinitneo 5:45 pm on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
I mean it’ll install only in C……any way to change that?
Janne Kalliomäki 8:56 pm on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
It’s basically impossible unless you create your own packages of Qt libraries. The current packages are hard-coded to install in the C drive.
jlankinen 3:09 pm on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
My problem is that I can’t install qt_installer.sis. I feel that it is “install always to C drive” issue. There is a failure beep during installation, and after that I just see qt installer in App manager. No Qt nor QtWebKit, which are required by WordPress. And WordPress installation states that too.
jlankinen 3:32 pm on February 13, 2010 Permalink |
Well, ok now it works. Instead of using PC suite to install it, I just copied qt sis to my mass memory from PC and installed from phone (n97mini) to C drive. I won’t try to figure out the reason why it didn’t work earlier. It was either the PC suite or installation to mass memory.
Micky 1:06 pm on February 16, 2010 Permalink |
Am I missing something here? Whenever I write a test post, it saves to Drafts, and does not publish it live, I then have to go to my MacBook, load up WordPress Dashboard, and then publish. Is there something I’m doing wrong here?
Janne Kalliomäki 5:34 pm on February 16, 2010 Permalink |
The default post status is draft, so you need to change it to published using a drop-down menu.
pten 7:40 am on February 19, 2010 Permalink |
Hi Micky, could you have a look at ticket http://nokia.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/18 and let me know if this is still an issue? Thanks a lot in advance!
Micky 7:45 am on February 19, 2010 Permalink |
So far, I have not experienced the time out, but then again, I have not yet tried a 200 post count since, but will create one today, and see if it works or not. I will update here my findings pten.
Micky 8:23 am on February 20, 2010 Permalink |
Hi pten, tested a 150 word test last night with adding an image, and it worked perfectly, N97 V21. Could really do with adding spell checker, and image preview though, but will add these to the wishlist post for 0.6
Peter Tennekes 12:11 pm on February 23, 2010 Permalink |
Thanks! I will close the issue. if it reappears let me know and we’ll reopen it.
