Getting started
I think we should post these steps also here for those not that familiar with Qt in S60 devices:
Get started by:
1. Install Qt libraries from ftp://ftp.qt.nokia.com/pub/qt/symbian/4.6.2/qt_installer.sis
2. Install WordPress for Nokia client from http://nokia.trac.wordpress.org/export/24/builds/symbian/WordPress_0.5.1_selfsigned.sisx
3. Submit tickets to http://nokia.trac.wordpress.org/
N900 users can download .deb -package here: http://nokia.trac.wordpress.org/export/25/builds/maemo/WordPress_0.5.1b.deb
N900 installation info in this thread: http://dev.nokia.wordpress.org/2010/02/12/maemo-0-5-0-release-uploaded/
(edit 12th Feb: 0.5.0 –> 0.5.1 and later to 0.5.1b, thanks to Hrw)
(edit 15th Feb: Qt is now 4.6.2)

Seems to work fine on the N97 Mini so far. Have the same minor problems as @Siraj mentioned here though.

Hi Jeff (and all others having a blog outside WordPress.com),
We’re using the same approach than iPhone client when it comes to connecting to the blog. WordPress for iPhone FAQ is a good starting point for troubleshooting issues with custom WP installations: http://iphone.wordpress.org/faq/

I added a ticket (http://nokia.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/15) for error handling in cases the blog does not have the XML-RPC enabled

If you guys have a stable Maemo Client you’d like to check out, I do have an N900 handy and would love to check it out

Please drop all .svn directories from Maemo package. It looks really nasty.

Ouch, thanks for the notification! Will fix this soon.

Thanks again for the notification! A new fixed build has been uploaded.

Janne: you know that Qt 4.6 which you are using is fast moving target and that each release can break binary compatibility?
Janne Kalliomäki 7:27 pm on February 12, 2010 Permalink |
Yeah, we have been hit by it several times during the course of the development. But still, I think that it is reasonable to use same Qt versions for both Symbian and Maemo, and on Symbian, only 4.6 is supported. What do you think?

Just in the process of installing now on my E72, N97mini, N900, N86, 5800 & X6. Will come back with a report on how its working!

did it install on E72 ?? was not to install on my E72 .. Qt libraries install but give an error at the last moment while installing dependencies !!

Can you try to remove from the app. manager everything related to Qt and OpenC and then try to install Qt? I got similar problems when I tried to upgrade Qt from 4.6.0 to 4.6.1. Removing everything and then reinstalling solved them.

Hi, I will be trying this on my E71 as soon as I have chance, ( Sat AM) I hope, will need to remove a couple of apps though as I only have about 13mb free, unless I can install all to Mass Memory,
Has anyone else successfully installed to Mass Memory on E71?
Janne Kalliomäki 11:06 pm on February 12, 2010 Permalink |
Hi, I checked and Qt installs at least its main libraries to phone memory, no matter what the user selects as a target, so 13 Mb is very little for that.

i’ve installed v0.5.1 on my E71 FW v400 and constantly getting MEMORY FULL messages

Thanks for the report. In what circumstances do you get this error? Do you have any other applications running, can you try to close them?
Joe 8:29 am on February 15, 2010 Permalink |
I’m getting the same on my E71. The error comes when an image is attached to the post. I have around 40+ MB of free RAM when I get the error. The error is there even when all the other apps are closed.

Thanks for the report. I will look into this. Do you by the way have image resizing setting on? Can you try to change the setting and retry? You can change the setting by selecting Blogs from the menu and then Edit.
Joe 9:55 am on February 15, 2010 Permalink |
Yes tried that. Still giving the error.
Joe 10:31 am on February 15, 2010 Permalink |
it’s working now without the resize option. A restart of the app after a crash seems to have fixed it!
Janne Kalliomäki 10:58 am on February 15, 2010 Permalink |
Thanks for the info! I’ll open a Trac ticket about the memory consumption.

Loving the N900 client, VERY well polished and works like a charm. Haven’t had a single issue yet.

HI!
I’ve installed this app on my Nokia N97 Mini and I am curious, is there a way to logout of a wordpress account once you’ve logged in?
Also, any idea if you’ll be adding video uploading capability any time soon? I have a paid account to upload video, would love to be able to use it with the app on my N97.
Many Thanks!!!
futubanister 5:04 am on June 4, 2010 Permalink |
Hi!
To logout you need to remove the blog – we are not having any means of logging off. What’s your opinion – what would be the use case for such? Using different accounts for same blog?
Video support is on our list with quite high priority. We need to get the next stable version out (this will happen during June) and after that take a look on our todo’s.
There will be video support for sure but unfortunately we don’t know the schedule yet.

Hi, Thank you for your quick response! I work for an educational non-profit that is focusing our program on multimedia blogging. We use nokia N97 mini’s in our camps and we are planning on using your application in our teachings. We are running a trial version of this program this summer and we are looking to expand this program into our year round teachings. As of now, we are planning on using the browser version of wordpress to upload videos, but would prefer to use your app as the browser version is very slow. A logout function would help us in our teachings very much since we work with multiple students each day and do not have a phone for every student. Please let me know if you think this is something that can be done, it would help us very much not to have to uninstall the application each time we have a new class. Thank you!
